Kids 1st

The Minnesota Supreme Court requires 8 hours of parental education for parents involved in a custody matter.  The Kids 1st fulfills this requirement by a one-time completion of a co-parenting internet program and a class conducted by our instructors.  This Kids 1st program follows the TransParenting Curriculum (click here for more information).

The internet portion of the curriculum  should be completed before attending the class.  It is important to choose the correct website based on your specific legal matter.

If you are involved in a divorce proceeding, go to:  www.uptoparents.org

If you are involved in a custody proceeding where the parents were never married, go to:  www.proudtoparent.org

Kids First is offered once a month in 3 different locations.  All classes are held Thursday evenings from 6pm to 10pm.   The days and locations are as follows:

  • Carlton County’s Kids First Program is the first Thursday of the month, held at the Carlton County Courthouse.

  • Duluth Kids First Program is the third Thursday of the month, held at our office located at the Torrey Building 314 West Superior Street, Suite 1000 in Duluth.

  • Iron Range Kids First Program is the fourth Thursday of month, location alternating between Virginia and Hibbing.  On odd months, the program is held in Virginia at the Virginia St. Louis County Courthouse, and on even months, the program is held in Hibbing at the Hibbing St. Louis County Courthouse.

When you call to sign up for the class our staff will give you more information about the curriculum.  The cost is $80 per individual, however if you are proceeding with an In Forma Pauperis Order, the fee is reduced to $40 per individual.

To register, please call our Kids 1st Program Coordinator at (218) 336-1392.
